Join this two-day workshop to learn about the papermaking process from start to finish! Bring your own paper scraps to recycle back into pulp using the professional hollander beater. We will learn how to operate the beater together and beat multiple batches of recycled pulps. We will practice European sheet-forming techniques using a mould and deckle. We will incorporate creative techniques including embedding, collage and pulp-painting. We will learn how to pigment pulps including basics in color theory, using additives like retention aid, formation aid and methyl cellulose to create different effects, and using the deckle box to make sheets without a vat. Each session includes a hands-on lecture, technical demonstration, viewing of works in the Studio K collection and lots of experimentation. No prior experience required!
ALL MATERIALS ARE INCLUDED.
Each workshop includes a Show & Tell Hour scheduled two weeks after the class to pick up finished artworks.
